I would like some advice as to whether what I would like to do is feasible. I have prepared training manuals for various training courses in ms word and converted them to adobe pdf. I would like to give students a CD of the course manual when they have paid for the course. Most payments are by cheque not online. The CD should be copy protected, prefereably password linked to a particular computer just like an activcompiler ebook. They will be allowed to print only one copy of the manual with pagination just like the original. I have a registered copy of Activcompiler but have not yet bought hyplock as I'm not sure if it will protect pdf files in a way that is useful to me. I have MS word 2003 and adobe CS3 Any and all comments/advice would be welcomed.

HYPrLock provides full PDF security - including the ability to protect your PDF content. Other Security systems only provide access security - but your content can still be stolen because PDF ha-c-ker software is easy to get (Just Google PDF security or PDF ha-c-king). All a ha-c-ker needs is one of the PDF passwords (the one your customers need to open your PDF file).
With HYPrLock you customers never get a PDF password, so ha-c-kers can not cr-a-ck your PDF security or steal your content.
That being said -- if you allow your secure PDF file to be printed then your security is severely compromised. There are numerous software PDF printers that can capture any signal going to the printer. This signal can be diverted to another file or used to created a new PDF file -- giving ha-c-kers an unprotected copy of your PDF document.
Regarding CD distribution.
HYPrLock is the only security system that allows you to distribute password protected CDs (no expensive anti-copy protection is required). HYPrLock registers the CD content to the customers computer and prevents sharing or copying. This feature would allow you "pre-authorize" any number of CDs and serial numbers for distribution. You could even sell them at your local mall. Customers only need to access the Internet one time -- to automatically validate and activate the registration.

Making the secure CD is possible - but there is no way to prevent multiple printings.
With PDF files you have the ability to allow printing -- or not to allow printing. There is no PDF setting for "print one time"
