Hello - I'm a new poster - but I've been reading for a while.
I need to make my Activ variables work properly on the first page of my eBook produced w/ PowerPoiint 2003. I have created my variables and modified the resulting html files with preprocessor property. The only variable link that works is the one that points to Activ eBook clickbank site reference. (Discover How To Create Your Own eBooks!) from the Help example - but other variables i.e. [={yoursiteurl}] and [={yoursitetitle}] aren't working.
I've think I've tried everything - even inserting the variables into the slide as hypertext links from the Insert Menu. They show up ok in eBook but they don't navigate to the site in a separate browser window. The eBook window changes to an error html page instead.
What would I place on the powerpoint slide just to use the variables from the Help example - it uses HTML - but I want to do it on the actaul ppt slide if possible. Does this make sense? Any workarounds? Thank you in advance...

shankhan;
I'm going to take a stab at this problem and see if I can't make a few suggestions. I've never tried to do what you are trying to do so I may be way off the mark.
First of all you mention trying to use the preprocessor function in Activ E-Book. By it's very nature "preprocessor" changes the preprocessor fields during the compile process. That means the fields values must already be pre set up in Activ E-Book.
The links you use as examples i.e. [={yoursiteurl}] and [={yoursitetitle}] come from the information about the Activ E-Book "Rebrander" function. The variables for these links are entered into Activ E-Book by a separate "Rebrander" program (before compiling a "Rebrander" version of your eBook). Unless you are working on a "Rebrander" version of your document these links will not work for you.
To use similar links without using the "Rebrander" program you would need to enter the link variables into Activ E-Book manually. You would do this by clicking the "Edit\Activ Variables\Add Variable" menu (or entering "ctrl + A" on the keyboard). When the "Add Variable" input screen opens, enter the name of your variable i.e. "yoursiteurl" and the Value of the variable i.e. "http://mywebsiteurl.com" (without the quotation marks) -- Then click the "Add" button to add the Variable to your eBook.
At compile time the "preprocessor" function will locate this variable and enter it into your document.
To have your links open in a separate browser window you need to enable "Automatically open Internet links in new (browser) window" in the "Edit\User Interface..." section.
Another way would be to use ( target="_blank" ) in your link code - for example ... <a href="http://www.ebookfriends.com/" target="_blank"> Activ E-Book Forum:</a>
