I've just been trying out the installation option in Activ eBook (you know, the option to have a shortcut added to the start menu or the desktop), but it isn't working.
I've tried out both options and the shortcut isn't showing up anywhere. Also, the book asks me if I want to add the shortcut every time I open it.
Is your Desktop crowded? Windows can only display so much, and any extra icons or shortcuts just don't display. It doesn't give you a warning about this, I don't think.

That's a good guess. I don't know if that's the reason but it's possible
Could also maybe be a disk space problem
Which version of Windows do you have?

I am having the same problems. Ebook 3.01 worked flawlessly as far as adding shortcuts. Now I have 4.01 and it is very inconsistant. Sometimes is prompts and adds the shortcut, sometimes it prompts and does not add the shortcut. For all you tech people out there, I am running a Athalon 1.2, 256MB ram, Windows 98SE pathed uptodate, have about 10 icons on my destop and have 29GB of FREE hard disk. Also in 3.01, you could have the Ebook add the shortcut without asking the user... Anyone know how to accomplish that in 4.01????
Thanks !

jphaklides - I think you are mistaken about 3.01 having a not prompt the user option. We've never had that
There are no changes whatsoever in the short cut adding stuff since version 3 through to 4.01. Every version works the same.
What it could be is that it will only ask you once per ESBN (the unque number assigned to each e-book). If your test system(s) had previous versions of an e-book with the same ESBN ran even once on them - then you won't get asked again.
A couple of ways around this
EITHER (a) Load the saved ebook project into the compiler. Click New ESBN. Save as a new ebook project, then click Run.
OR (b) If you're only having this problem on your internal systems for testing, you can open the ANS2000.INI (in Windows folder) in Notepad look for the section where it has the ESBN of your ebook in square brackets. Under this is a line which says IconSetup=1. Delete this line. Then run the ebook
