As a help author, I spend a lot of time building help systems, writing procedures, and helping users, from my site and in some help authors' forums.
I've posted some scripts and tools that are useful for help authors, and perhaps ebook authors on that site: http://www.copperfieldpub.com . The scripts are free of course, and the tools are mostly freeware and non-crippled shareware.
Among the ideas there that might be useful to ebook authors are:
an auto-lookup feature using a commercial online dictionary or a local glossary. Just double-click on any non-linked word. Useful for technical manuals with a professional vernacular.
non-scrolling headers and footers. One method uses Javascript for both IE & Netscape, and bounces around a bit. The other works for IE 4.5+, which should be fine for Activ ebooks; it's rock-solid, looks just like a frame, but it's not...
An Html editor, a scriptable search-n-replace app, file renaming applications, other useful tools...
There are some other design ideas that might apply to ebooks as well, but are not as easy to reproduce... things like browse sequence buttons, Hide/show the expanding TOC, index & search panes, annotations using cookies (haven't tried it in Activ yet), and shadowed popups.
I'm certainly not an expert at Activ, but I'll help where I can.
